Carolina’s Notes
Tony & I decided to leave Michigan due to weather. I wanted to stop by to see my brother Pete and his family. So I had to surprise Pete. When I would plan trips to see him; he would turn me down. I didn’t want to take no for an answer considering my past experiences with Pete and Kimber (my sister-in-law) so I came unannounced.
Well mission accomplished. I surprised Pete at work then went to his house to surprise my niece, Kelsey and nephew, Brett. I was so happy to see them. I hadn’t seen them in seven years so a lot of time had passed and they weren’t little anymore. They are now 17 and 11 so in or approaching their teen years. Pete asked me to stay an extra day since he was on vacation starting Wednesday so we stayed an extra day and left Thursday, September 3, 2009.
While Tony and I were in Moline we biked along the Mississippi River, visited John Deere Pavilion, and Quad City Botanical Center. There were many more bike rides to undertake but Tony & I decided to take it a little easy because after Moline the real driving began and we were still recuperating from our bickering on departure day. We also needed to do our laundry and soak in the hot tub at our KOA Campground also known as Camelot Campgrounds. I had an extra-added bonus because I was able to watch Brett play football. After the game, Tony, Pete, Kimber, Brett, Kelsey, Nancy (Kimber’s Mom), Bob (Kimber’s Step-Dad) and I had a picnic at a local city park. I apologize for not remembering the name of the park. I will never forget the wonderful time I had with my family. We talked about the football game, how life has been going, and how my mom has been. Again I cannot stress enough at what a marvelous time we had. The food was simple but the company and conversation was ‘Five-Star’ all the way. This stop reminded me of how to laugh. I had forgotten how to laugh but my brother and his family reminded me of how good it is to laugh despite life getting in the way. Thanks!
Tony’s Notes
Like Carolina Stated, we left Holland, Michigan on Sunday, August 30, 2009. We made it to Moline, Illinois late on Sunday, and we hooked up at the KOA campground called Camelot in Rock Island, Illinois; near Moline. We surprised Pete that evening by going by the Walgreen’s where he works. We were able to stop by his home and surprise Brett and Kelsey. It was late though, and we only briefly stopped, said hello, and got back to the campground. The next day, the kids had school, and Pete and Kimber had to work; one day I will go back to work somewhere, too. While they were off to work and school, we took our tandem bike over to downtown Moline, along the Mississippi River. Not that I mean to re-iterate everything Carolina already wrote in her notes.
Anyway, we stayed for several days, and enjoyed ourselves quite a bit. Carolina’s brother Pete is blessed with a very loving, close family. I am not sure they know what a great family they are and I enjoyed them.
The campground was older; however, they had a nice hot tub, and very clean showers. Our motorhome, Harry Hurricane, has fine showers in the bathroom. Usually, when we use the campground amenities, we will check and see how clean the bath house is and use the showers. In this case, we did not have a full hookup, so we could not dump the grey tank and because we had decided to stay a few extra days, we needed to use the KOA’s showers to ensure our grey tank did not get full and force me to unhook and go dump. I hate the idea of having to move the RV multiple times while at one campground or RV Park. Anyways, it worked out fine and we had some nice weather to play in Moline Illinois. There are paved bicycle trails for over two hundred miles along the Mississippi River. There are many marinas and parks along the way; however, being that the River is used for shipping, there are also many industrial sites. There were many sites to see that we did not take the time to do. I think that Carolina and I were still trying to adjust to this beginning of an extended journey cross-country.

Sounds like you are off to a great start. Can't wait to see more pics and hear more about your travels. Best of luck to both of you on your new chapter in life. Take care.
