November 12th - Sedona, Arizona

Tony’s Notes
We have two nights at Rancho Sedona RV Resort, last night and tonight. So, we actually only had one full day to check out Sedona. We were not really showered and dressed and ready to leave the RV until almost 11am. Once in town, I had wanted to checkout this one coffee bakery café to both eat something, and see if they had a decent Wi-Fi connection.

While walking through town, some young lady pulled me into what looked like a visitor center to tell me about a few places to visit. While showing us a map of places to go she said she could give us $100 cash to spend. So, I knew she wanted us to sit through a 90 minute timeshare presentation. However, I really did not have the time to give to something that I knew for sure I had no intention of buying.

The thought of an extra bit of cash was tempting, so we went ahead and scheduled time to sit through the resorts sales pitch. We did stop at the bakery, but their Wi-Fi was down, so we had coffee and a bagel, and headed to the library to get caught up on a few tasks. Then, we headed over to Sedona Pines Resort.

The presentation ended up taking 3 hours. This was because we talked too much at the beginning. Also, because I asked too many questions and had them thinking I was ready to buy. The thing about these sales pitches is that they tell you they are different and won’t do a hard sell, but in the end it really is a hard sell impulse buy scenario. What always bothers me about this type of presentation is that the woman presenting, when she was finally ready to show us pricing, showed us a package that had an initial cost of $23,000 dollars. Then, when she could see we had no interest, she asked some senior sales guy what else was available. Before you know it he has the same basic deal but for ONLY $9,565. After telling us all of the extra deals he would throw in if we bought today, we said we needed to chat for a minute. Carolina and I quickly looked at each other and said to ourselves, that there is no way we are signing up. After we told them we were not interested, we had to complete a quick survey before getting our $100. Then, while waiting to complete the last little survey, they came over and asked if they could make the price $8,400, would it make a difference. We said no, and let them know we were done and ready to go. I would have liked to let them no it only made turning down the offer easy because if they could have sold it for $8,400 then they should have offered that deal first. But Whatever…. We got our $100 in Cash and left.

I was glad to get the cash, but my three hours of time alone is worth more than $100. So, I was happy and pissed off at the same time.

We had just enough time to drive up to the Sedona Airport Mesa and check out the panoramic view of the Red Rocks and the Sedona area. The views here are breathtaking. We took several pictures and watched the sunset. Although, it was a very cloudy, windy, and cold day, the colors we lit up the sky after the sun had set.

Ideally, we could stay in this area a couple more days and do some hiking up into the mountains; however, the weather forecast is looking like it will get colder, rainy, and icy over the next couple of days. So, we will head south in the morning. We will get back to the Valley of the Sun; Phoenix, AZ. I am looking forward to Sun and Heat. Over the next five days, I will need to dedicate my time to looking for short term contract work. A nice Healthcare IT project that would last six months in Phoenix would be awesome. That way, next spring, we could continue our journey and maybe head up to southern Utah to check out Bryce Canyon, Arches, and Zion National Parks. Of course, we are also prepared to get back to Michigan in a month and get ready for another Michigan winter.

All in all, Sedona, Arizona is a beautiful place to visit and I would come back again; I just won’t sit through a Timeshare sales pitch next time.

Carolina’s Notes
I woke up and got showered and dressed; I have to admit that I woke up lazy. I’m not sure why but I finally got myself together. Then we were off into downtown. Tony wanted to find a stronger Internet connection because our connection at Rancho Sedona RV Park isn’t strong enough for all of our uses. The task of trying to find parking has been challenging; I must say that it has been frustrating finding places in Sedona. When we pulled into town with Harry I thought parking difficulty was just because we were in Harry but the town just isn’t tourist friendly. While touring downtown, Tony was grabbed into a visitor’s center or store to help tourists. Well, we were enticed to listen to a ninety-minute presentation on Time Shares that proved to take up our whole day. The only benefit in spending this time was that we were reimbursed one hundred dollars in cash. We also managed to get to the local library to get our necessary tasks completed; we first went to the library then to the presentation. Despite spending almost three hours listening to the hard sell pitch, Tony was able to sightsee at sunset at his point of interest. Tony clicked several shots and enjoyed his view. The guide at the point of interest directed us to his favorite restaurant (Judi’s); it was a big hit! Judi’s made my visit to Sedona worth the trip.

We made our way home and finished what computer work we could. Then we enjoyed the rest of the evening. I want to try to get some rest because tomorrow is a travel day. Traveling tomorrow could prove to be challenging.
