Carolina’s Notes
Today I started my day drinking coffee while I did some computer work that took longer than planned. I was pleased to find out that I didn’t sleep too late but time still got away from me. I threw on clothes instead of showering because I didn’t want the sun to disappear. I am determined to play. Tony has been awake for hours working on computer work and job hunting. He is getting responses, which is good considering our nest egg is diminishing. The sun is calling and Tony and I are ready to see what sight seeing we can accomplish.
On route to our journey, Tony wanted to try the cinnamon rolls from Old West Cinnamon Rolls. We were so happy we did. The rolls and staff were wonderful. We continued our journey and we stopped at several beaches on the way to Avila Beach. There are small public beaches all the way down the coast. Some of these beaches have stairs leading down right to the ocean. I made my way down some that I felt wouldn’t throw me into meltdown. I enjoyed my time visiting all of the beaches. I managed to find some shells to give, as gifts promised to love ones in Michigan. We played all the way to Avila Beach and spent the most time there. We hunted to find starfish, shells, sand dollars and cool ocean rocks. Once we noticed the tide was getting high, we decided to get to our mineral spa soak. Daylight won’t wait for us and we still want to soak in the activity at Pismo Beach. Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort is in San Luis Obispo not too far away from home base. We soaked for an hour at Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort. It was a great time. We were able to soak in a private tub right out in nature. I didn’t need a swimsuit. Being in a public place with young folk might prove to be intimidating. These amenities weren’t as fancy as at River Oaks Hot Springs Spa but we enjoyed this experience. Please note to be fair we did purchase an entirely different package from River Oaks Hot Springs Spa but what Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort offered to compare was pricier. We were quiet satisfied with the hour soak in the private mineral tub. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. On the way home, we stopped at a produce market/farm; I had noticed a sign (going to Avila Beach) that said peaches and I wanted peaches. They had no peaches but we did purchase some other items to take home. I told Tony that I really wanted to eat at home then get to Pismo Beach to finish the day relaxing on the beach. He was game. He heated the food from yesterday and we ate and did some quick computer work.
We took our tandem bicycle to see sunset on Pismo Beach. Traveling on foot would have only given us a few glimpses. The wind was cold but we had blankets and coats to try to keep us warm. It was too irresistible not to put our feet in the cold sand. Pismo Beach sand is the softest that we have walked on our journey cross country to date. We got home to unload and then we were out the door again. Tony wanted to have pizza and beer. We had fun eating, drinking and watching the World Series. We came home and had a fire at our campsite and ended the evening on a positive note. I went to sleep grateful for my fun filled day.
Tony’s Notes
We have had some great weather; however, what I have learned is that these beaches have warm sunny weather during the day, but at about 3:45pm each day, a cool breeze starts coming in from the sea, and by the later afternoon it gets chilly out there on the beach.
I enjoyed beachcombing today at Avila and Shell beaches. They had many nice small parks on the coast. One park, called Spyglass Park, was very nice. We sat on a bench and watched the surfers ride the waves.
Sycamore Mineral Spring Spa was very nice. It was quite different. The private hot tubs full of mineral spring water were up on a hill. Each with a set of stairs to climb and each provided a nice view. Our tub was way up and we climbed several staircases to get up there. They were private, but I do not think the resort could assure total privacy. It was open air, but I was glad we were at close to the top. I didn’t want anyone on their way down, looking down into our private area. It was a sulfur smelling mineral spring and it was very hot. This was the third time on this sabbatical that we had the pleasure of soaking in hot mineral springs.
We watched a nice sunset on Pismo Beach. Afterwards, we had a fantastic gourmet pizza at an Italian restaurant and washed it down with very nice imported ale from London. Great Day!
