October 29th - Getting to Long Beach

Carolina’s Notes
Today I started my day off feeling woozy from all the fun I had yesterday. I hope I get feeling better because I need to shower and get packed up for traveling. Well time waits for no one and I had to get moving while Tony did a load of laundry. I got cleaned up then helped get our belongings packed. We stopped to get cinnamon rolls before heading out of town.

On our journey, we stopped in Solvang, CA; it is similar to Copenhagen Denmark. The town also reminded us of Frankenmuth, Michigan which is like a little Bavarian town and represents a slice of Germany. My brother said Solvang, CA was a good town to stop and visit and have lunch so that is precisely what we did. We enjoyed our time there; we were there two hours. Then back on the road again, the traveling was hard on me today.

The RV was rocking more than usual plus I tried to sit in the passenger seat but I eventually had to move to the kitchen table. Tony didn’t think the traveling was so bad until we hit Los Angeles Rush Hour Traffic. Night fell and the five-lane highway was wall to wall with cars. I had a minor meltdown because I was tired from our two hundred mile driving journey on top of still feeling ill from yesterday but we didn’t argue. I was grateful for NO arguing! I told Tony that I just want to STOP. He apologized for rattling me and he’d get to our destination as soon as he could. He was wearing down from the journey too. We finally arrived at Golden Shore RV Resort in Long Beach at 8:30 p.m. (PST). The highway was still full of cars. Detroit has a Rush Hour too but Los Angeles just has a lot more people and I am use to my hometown. I was grateful NOT to be in motion anymore for the night. I helped hook up and put my nightgown on and watched TV. Tony picked up a pizza and we enjoyed flaking out at home. We had a nice ending to our hectic travel day. We ended our day on a positive note without any arguing.

Tony’s Notes
I also enjoyed stopping in Solvang and having lunch at a Danish bakery and restaurant. Our travels today were to get us closer to Los Angeles. I wanted us to have a chance while in this area to visit my aunt and my cousins.

We had very limited choices for RV Parks and Campgrounds in the L.A. area. There was a nice RV Resort in Malibu called Malibu Beach RV Resort. I really should have gone there and hooked up; however, it would take almost a two hour drive to get to the area of L.A. where my aunt lives. The other choice was to go to Golden Shores RV Resort in Long Beach. This was only eleven miles from my aunt’s house. I was not sure which to choose, but the Long Beach location would cost less. It took a lot longer to get there than I thought it would because the traffic on I-405 was insane. I was driving an average of fifteen miles an hour.

I was very pleased to get to the RV Park in Long Beach and find it to be a very nice area. The RV Resort was full of high end motorcoaches and nice green landscaping and palm trees. I really knew nothing about this area. The next morning, I would plan to call my cousin and start to make plans for getting together.
