Carolina’s Notes
I woke up and washed my face and brushed my teeth; I didn’t feel like showering. We were only staying overnight and the thought of unpacking toiletries and packing up again right away didn’t inspire. Tony researched some of the paths to and from The Grand Canyon National Park. Then we had to pay for our night stay and get breakfast and get out on the road for the two hundred mile journey.
This travel day was a good travel day. I was able to sit in the passenger seat and enjoy the ride. I had a couple areas that had my heart going but I just looked at the breathtaking views and said that I was in God’s hands and I was calm. We tried to bunk in Flagstaff, AZ but there wasn’t any place suitable. It was getting dark and I was ready to stop. Tony asked me to be patient and he’d find us a place. I wasn’t ready to continue driving in the dark but with Tony’s tutelage we found a campground. We bunked at The Flintstones Campground in Williams, AZ; its decor is just like the cartoon. I must say that I thought it was quaint. We only have electricity and I feel that not showering this morning may backfire. I use lots of water to shampoo my hair and my hair needs washing. Honestly, I’ll have to solve that tomorrow. For now, I need to relax. Tony and I plan on staying home and getting to bed early. We want to get up early to get to The Grand Canyon National Park early. We are approximately 30 miles away.
I am happy things worked well today. I end my day grateful for all that I have.
Tony’s Notes
We drove through the Phoenix area today. It was very hot and sunny in Phoenix. As we headed up I-17 toward Flagstaff, we quickly climbed to about a 7,400 feet elevation. Once up in elevation, it was amazing to watch the cactus get replaced by pine trees, and such. The temperature dropped dramatically. We end up, like Carolina stated, about 30 miles from the Grand Canyon National Park. We stayed one night at the Flintstone Village Campground; this was an older campground that did not seem very well maintained. However, it was perfect to have a place to park for the night. We had to run the furnace, but was nice to fix our food, and relax.
