October 8th

While we were scoping out the area, we met a man who was bicycle riding the Pacific Coast. He had started in Anacortes, Washington and was heading for San Diego, California. He told us he would do about fifty to sixty miles per day. He said he could physically do more miles, but is limited by daylight. Quite an amazing thing to do.

Carolina’s Notes
We got up and Tony and got ready to explore the hot spots of Coos Bay in the day. We landed at a breakfast restaurant called Pancake Mill. What a treat!! The weather wasn’t cooperative but Tony and I took a drive around the bay. We drove around the area to scope out the local stores, etc. We had to find a Post Office and a grocery store so once we found what we were looking for and completed our tasks we got home to put our items away. We did a couple chores, which included some maintenance on Harry’s Black Tank and a little housekeeping. Then we decided to explore some of local state parks to see what they had to offer as far as recreational activities and campground hook ups. We drove through the city of Charleston to arrive at the state parks. The parks we investigated were Sunset Bay State Park and Bastendorff Beach County Park The weather didn’t cooperate as far as really being able to investigate because the fog rolled in and made conditions cloudy and cold.

We set out to scope out the parks before we picked up some clam chowder/dinner. We had a nice dinner and hit a couple local bars to see some baseball. After those local evening stops we got back to home base and ended the evening.

Tony’s Notes
This was a very foggy day and hard to see much while out and about. We drove through the several state parks, and I made a few mental notes about what I would do the next day, if the weather cooperated.
