Carolina’s Notes
Today Tony and I got up at 10:15 a.m. (PST). Holy Cow!! Tony and I don’t sleep this late ever. We threw on clothes and hunted for Panera Bread. Big mistake!! This Panera Bread was awful! First, we were invisible to the store clerk not to mention their coffee was close to two hours old. Note, seriously a coffeehouse shouldn’t have coffee older than twenty minutes old let alone two hours old. The baked goods were definitely not to Panera standards. The cinnamon roll was under cooked and my cobblestone was over done. We also noticed that their pecan coffee roll appeared to be overcooked. Tony asked for a refund and we were made to wait. I asked if there was a manager that could speak with my husband. Well the manger came and it was a college kid who smelled from the lack of bathing. First, I have no problem with young people in management potions. These young people especially in the food service industry must maintain health and safety standards so if this individual cannot maintain his own cleanliness it brings about serious questions as to the store’s cleanliness and quality standards. Well I will be contacting the Panera corporate office. Tony & I decided to move onward in our pursuit for good coffee. We landed next door to a local diner but we left there too. I just can’t drink cowboy coffee and their food prices were extremely expensive. We decided to go to Starbucks. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a Starbucks faithful but I know that Tony feels that Starbucks’ coffee is too strong for him. I try to compromise when ever possible. Starbucks made my plain decaf coffee fresh, because the decaf ran out, and served it in a china mug. The only detraction is we have to pay for WiFi that’s why most of the time we frequent Panera just for the free WiFi. Well, the moral to this story is stay home and fix your own food!! When will this message sink in? I hope soon.

Well once we got finished at Starbucks then we shopped at Safeway for a few grocery items. The plan for the next destination is to obtain some discipline by incorporating exercise, getting to bed at a reasonable hour and eating and preparing our own food. I am hopeful that the vacation lifestyle is behind us. On the way home, we had to get a letter into the mail and we wanted it to go from a US Post Office so we detoured to that very establishment. I was amazed to find out that Tony was contemplating stopping to grab a bite to eat. I told Tony that I’d really rather not and he was already backing down on eating out in his own mind. I’ve learned that if you lack the discipline to change certain behaviors and/or habits that it doesn’t matter how far you go…you can never get away from yourself. In other words, if you need to change then change must start on the inside because if you remain the same on inside the outside world is irrelevant. Here’s the age-old example that the glass is either half full or half empty. If your insides continue to see the glass half full it doesn’t matter if the glass is at your kitchen table or in a Five-Star restaurant or at Burger King. It truly is your attitude that prevents the glass being full. I guess I’m not only sight seeing it maybe that I might be seeing a little into myself…huh who would have thought?

We did get home to Harry, and Tony started preparing lunch as well as tonight’s dinner while I contacted my mom. I am sorrowful to report that my mom was distraught about some of her finances. I do feel that she’s mistaken but she wants Heather to take her to her bank to fix the issue. I do hope that it all gets resolved. I am glad to report that mom is very grateful to Heather for all that she’s doing to help her in my absence and, my friends, this is priceless. The rest of the time is being passed by Tony working on some chores; just some trivial chores. I’m doing some computer work. We both were restless and it started to rain. This was the first real rain we’ve had since being in the Seattle area. We decided to go to the movies. We watched ‘Surrogate.’ It was good. We ate popcorn so we packed up dinner for another day. We got home watched some TV and settled down for bed.

Tony’s Notes
The nice thing is that we needed a good internet connection and while sitting at Starbuck’s, we were picking up the Safeway Food Market free Wi-Fi. It worked out well.

I have always been a ‘cup is half full’ type of person. In fact, all my life I have always been quite optimistic. However, in the past three years, I have become quite pessimistic and I believe that this is what has lead me to take this sabbatical. I have needed to step away from the ‘normal’ life and get out of the ‘pessimistic’ funk. I am not so sure that this is the same thing that Carolina is talking about in her notes.

I did enjoy going to the movies. The ‘Surrogate’ was a good Sci-Fi movie. I was disappointed because I always get the senior discount at MJR theaters back home, and this young cashier had no intention of giving it to me because I am not 62 yrs old.

I did prepare a very nice healthy dinner, and was surprised that I packed it up to serve the next day and had popcorn for dinner.

It was a fun rainy day.
