Sept. 19th to 21st - Travel Days through Montana, Idaho and Washington

Carolina’s Notes
Well we woke up and got ready for today’s travel day. We started in Cody, WY and drove through WY toward Billings, MT and wound up bunking down in Butte, MT at Walmart. Tony & I were hungry so we stopped at a China Buffet place and ate. We picked up some groceries so we can cook. Tony & I were tired but restless so we caught a movie at the theater ‘Whiteout.’ Sorry to say it wasn’t very good. Nothing much to report other than the majestic sights was even more breathtaking than in the previous states we traveled. This was a really good travel day for me. I didn’t require my medicinal shot of Jack Daniels Whiskey to calm me at the end of my day. I was most grateful. We got to Walmart after the movie and got to sleep so we could have an early start Sunday morning.

Tony’s Notes
It was a good travel day. I pretty much blew through Montana. I was a little sorry we did not head north on up to Glacier National Park. However, I was still pretty concerned about the colder weather coming our way. We already had to put the furnace on at night.

Anyway, the parking lot at Wal-Mart was full of RV’ers bedding down for the night, so I had a comfortable night sleep and did not feel like a vagabond.
Carolina’s Notes
Well we woke up and got ready for today’s travel day. We started in Butte, MT and drove through Idaho toward Spokane, WA and wound up bunking down in at Spokane Valley. We found an RV place off the highway. The name of the place is ‘Trailer Inns RV Park.’ It was neat and clean and small but it fit all our vehicles. We stayed just the one day. Tony found a Costco for me to visit; he knows it is my playground. We picked up some items so we can try to save money. This was a good travel day for me until we hit the border of Montana and Idaho. The drive became nerve racking for both of us because of the mountain terrain. Tony did an excellent job getting through there despite the truckers proving their driving skills through the terrain. I did require my medicinal shot of Jack Daniels Whiskey to calm me at the end of my day. I had it with Caffeine-Free Diet Coke…yum! The RV place had Cable TV so I was able to watch a little bit of football. The game was Dallas and NY-Giants; it was ok but anyone who knows me that I do not like Dallas. We ate dinner and watched TV and rested for the tomorrow’s continuing travel toward the West Coast. Nothing much to report other than the majestic sights was even more breathtaking than in the previous states we traveled. The farther along the mountains we travel the more fascinated I am with the views.

Tony’s Notes
Yes, we finished our drive through Montana, and through Idaho. Again, I would have loved to head into the area of Idaho where all of the Hot Springs were. After our stop in Thermopolis, I was looking forward to finding a natural hot spring to soak in another day. However, I did not take the time, just flew through the northern part of Idaho, and into Spokane. The Trailers Inn RV Park was an older park with very narrow roads. It was small, but like Carolina said, we fit. We were able to hook up and relax. Carolina watched football, and I was able to take a short bike ride. Other than hooking up at an RV Park for one night, we really did not stray far from I-90 to take in any sights in Spokane.
Carolina’s Notes
Well we woke up and got ready for today’s travel day. We started in Spokane Valley and plan on making it to Seattle, WA. This depends on how well Tony & I travel today. We slept well and leisurely got ready. Tony received another phone call offering him employment in MI but the pushiness of this recruiter is annoying Tony. Tony is contemplating the position all the while continuing on our sabbatical. Tony is his own boss that’s the beauty of a sabbatical. The recruiter continues the pursuit of Tony by tactics Tony, nor I, approve. In the meantime we are continuing on our sabbatical.

Well, traveling through WA was pretty smooth until we hit what I believe to be the Cascade Mountain Range. We stopped at a look out point to view the Columbia River more thoroughly. Again, the sights that I have experienced just keep getting better and better. Fortunately, I quickly found my barrings through the mountainous terrain and enjoyed the journey. Keep in mind I am not sitting in the front passenger seat; I’m at the kitchen table with the day shades closed as needed. I even managed to click a couple pictures for Tony since he’s driving he doesn’t get to see everything. While making our way to Seattle we saw Mt. Rainier off in the distance and clearly it was the biggest and tallest mountain we’ve seen to date. All I can say is WOW! We didn’t quite get to Seattle. We bunked down in a town called Easton, WA. We are staying two nights at ‘Lake Easton Resort’ next to ‘Lake Easton State Park.’ The state park offers free lodging but no amenities are offered. We are going to try to find another site with the amenities that this city girl requires. Thanks Tony!

Well it was Monday night and the first Monday Night Football Game was tonight. Tony was willing to get me to a place where I could see the game. This campground doesn’t have cable and since the game is on cable he had no choice. We found ‘Easton Saloon’ and boy did we hit the jackpot. This is where the local folks go and the people who work there was great. These folks were well versed in customer service. They made Tony & I feel welcomed and appreciated. Thanks to everyone in the Saloon! Well I did manage to convince Tony to stay until the end of the game. It was a good and close game between Indianapolis – Colts and Miami – Dolphins. Colts won in Miami. We got home and started watching one of the movies I picked out from this campground office that rents out movies. I fell asleep before the end so Tony took me to bed when he was ready.

Tony’s Notes
Yes, we got to about seventy miles outside of Seattle. Lake Easton was up in the mountains. We thought that it would be nice to take a couple days there and relax. The RV Park and Campground accepted Passport America. Passport America is a great discount association. I had paid a forty-five dollar membership fee that gives me a fifty percent discount at many RV Parks and Campgrounds. So, I was quite happy to stay at a Campground that accepts Passport America. I saved thirty-six dollars by staying at Lake Easton and that came close to having the membership fee pay for itself.
