Carolina’s Notes
Tony & I woke up; we slept ok between the beer and the traffic noise from I-90 it wasn’t as restful. Tony got showered and dressed first while I was still trying to snooze at least fifteen more minutes. It was my turn to shower and dress. While I was in showering, Tony received a call from that recruiter. Once again the recruiter browbeat Tony about employment in MI. This approach didn’t/doesn’t sit right with either of us. So when I got out of the shower Tony was already worn out and still trying to recuperate from Monday Night Football. I’m not sure what today holds but as long as I’m with Tony it is ok with me.
As it turned out, I took him by the lake to see if he’d like to float in our inflatable boat on Lake Easton. We took a stroll down by the water but I could tell he was distracted by that employment phone call. I too was lethargic from the previous evening so I didn’t push to boat and just walked. Tony had wanted to drive our car into Seattle to check into lodging for a week stay, along with other attractions. The lodging phone calls just weren’t helping him make up his mind. We decided to drive to downtown to check things out.
On the road to Seattle I got nerved up a little bit. I must say it came as a surprise to me because I have felt that the more I drive through the mountainous terrain the more I am acclimating. I was glad I had armed myself with one pill of Dramamine and the wrist bands (to help motion sickness). The nervousness passed and soon we were at our destination…’Trailer Inns R.V. Park’ in Seattle/Bellevue Park. We wanted to see how the place was in comparison to its brother location in Spokane. We liked the accommodations so we booked a site for a week and put down a deposit. We visited the Pizza Hut and ate. I am disappointed again with the customer service at this establishment. One of these days I’ll learn to eat our own food.
Our return trip went well but Tony was still consumed with the recruiter’s conversation aka browbeating session. He talked about what was going through his mind and I tried to help by listening and adding my opinion in on occasion. I wasn’t as nerved up as on the trip to Seattle so I was grateful and ready to get back to our RV. I wanted to relax.
I plan on kicking back in Harry for the rest of the night. I will try to finish watching the movies I checked out from the front desk last night. So for now I am signing off.
Tony’s Notes
Carolina is correct; the Trailer Inn RV Park in Seattle would be our next ‘home base’ while playing around in the Seattle area. I wanted to be near the city, and I was able to get a discount by staying there for seven days. They had very nice amenities; like an indoor pool and spa. The pool water was kept at eighty-two degrees. It sounded good to me.
Carolina has also mentioned the recruiter that has been calling me each day, morning, noon, and night. The recruiter was recruiting for a consulting firm that I really had a strong desire to work for either as W2 or 1099. Also, the project they wanted me to manage was a radiology information system implementation at a health system that I was already quite familiar. They would have offered me more money than I had earned in the past, it was a Monday through Thursday job. This meant a three day weekend, every weekend. They would have also paid seven weeks of vacation per year. Quite the deal. The problem is that they wanted me to be ready to start within two weeks. I told the recruiter that I wanted to take the interview, but I could not start working in Michigan until November 1st. He really wanted to convince me to cut the sabbatical short and I tried to make him understand that starting November 1st was cutting things short.
My original intention was to take a six to eight month sabbatical, and NOT be back in Michigan until early spring. I really do not want to shovel snow this year. I did not want to burn any bridges because in reality, I will have to find work, and by mid-November, I will need to start my search for short-term contract work. Preferably, I would like to find a short-term contract in a warm southern state and then head back to Michigan next year, and so forth. I had to turn down the recruiter’s plea. When I am ready to find work, I will probably give this guy a call. He will definitely remind me of the missed opportunity. But that is OK, because I am still enjoying my mini-retirement.
Lake Easton was very beautiful. We were up in the mountains, right next to a pretty mountain lake with views of mountain tops all around us. However, even though I-90 was quite a distance from our campsite, it was very loud at night. I was surprised and could not quite understand how or where all the late night traffic noises were coming from because we were out in the country. It was loud, and I had noticed a lot of noise pollution since we hit the road back on August 27th. This is probably because we were always staying somewhere close to a main road or highway. I knew that our stay in Seattle would also be noisy because we would be off the main interstate roads. At some point in this journey, I will have to ensure we hookup at some State Parks, and National parks, where we are in the wilderness and only listening to the sounds of the creatures in the night.
